JFWxUNHCR MENA creates a Mentorship Scheme dedicated to support the efforts between talented refugees from the Middle East and North Africa region along with talented local designers. With millions of refugees fleeing in search of safety, our program takes notice of this dynamic challenge including the biggest displacement crisis since World War II. Forty percent of the 68.5 million refugees, IDPs and stateless persons globally, are in the Middle East and North Africa region. The responsibility borne by those neighboring countries in the midst of conflict remains significant and requires global solutions. Our mission is to design an exchangeable skill-set program to share knowledge, training and expertise between both designers and refugees, which can eventually help the inclusion of refugees in host communities, labor market and design culture. JFW will evaluate refugees’ skill-sets in order to provide them with a program devoted to better frame and understand the role of fashion/design in the protection and assistance of refugees in collaboration with local designers. Designers will provide field training programs and seminars related to fashion and textile production. This initiative will empower refugee women and will help make a significant impact.
